Yale Officer on Military Leave Checks In

Sergeant Walter Butler, presently on military leave of absence, checked in with me earlier today.  Butler has worked with Yale since January 15th, 2007 and has worked with me since 2000. Butler serves in the United States Army.  Over the past 11 years he has been deployed many times to serve overseas, and has always returned.  Sgt. Butler is currently in the Wounded Warrior program at Ft Hood, TexasButler was patrolling in hostile territory overseas when an IED (improvised explosive device) exploded underneath his Humvee.  Sgt. Butler stated he was the only one to survive the blast.  He has been hospitalized for the last 3 months but is expected to fully recover.  Our deepest sympathies go out to Sgt. Butler's Humvee unit soldiers who lost their lives and to all the men and women in military service who make the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We at the Houston office also wish a speedy recovery to Sgt. Walter Butler.
